Comment on the 20th century
by Bia Papadopoulou

Annita Argyroiliopoulou comments on war as the a priori event which spreads death and catastrophe. Her wall-piece of a mouth in relief, made of wire-, is a communicational symbol and a bearer of speech that transports the opposite meaning of Stupar's work: instead of trying to conceal the dramatic events, it denounces them.
The photographs that flood the human lips refer to abstracted images of fire or bombings. The half-opened mouth, an emblem of eroticism and tenderness, is loaded with yellow smoke, encompassing scenes of violent, bloody acts that evoke a sense of fright and agitation.  A cry of protest against human inhumanity, Argyroheliopoulous installation does not refer to a specific historical event but pinpoints, instead, the common feeling and the universal traumatic experiences that result from any war.
